How to 🩷 Care for and Propagate Your 🪴 Succulents
General Care for Aloiampelos ciliaris aka Climbing Aloe
Aloiampelos ciliaris, commonly known as Climbing Aloe, is a fantastic addition to any garden. With its bright orange flowers that lure birds and its resistance to deer, this succulent shines in rock and container gardens. When grown indoors, it tends to stay compact and doesn’t branch out as much.
Watering
Climbing Aloe has slightly lower water needs compared to other succulents. The soak and dry method works best – make sure the soil is completely dry before the next watering.
Where to Plant
Aloiampelos ciliaris isn’t frost-hardy. If your area drops below 30°F (-1.1°C), it’s best to keep it in a container that you can bring indoors.
This Aloe handles shade better than most, but it still craves lots of sunlight. Indoors, place it in a sunny spot, like near a south-facing window if you’re in the Northern Hemisphere.
How to Propagate Aloiampelos ciliaris aka Climbing Aloe
Climbing Aloe is a prolific propagator with many offsets. You can also propagate it from stem cuttings and seeds. Be aware, though, that propagating from leaves typically results in rotting.
Cuttings
To propagate from cuttings, use a sterile, sharp knife or scissors. Remove a stem, let it callous for a few days, then plant it in well-draining soil. Water once the soil has dried out completely.
Offsets
This Aloe will produce small offsets around its base. Pull these up and let them dry for one to two days before replanting.
Seeds
Sow seeds in well-draining soil. If you’re in a zone above 9a, you can grow them outdoors. Otherwise, start sowing indoors under a grow light or on a seed mat.
