Glossary of Succulent Terms

A naturally occurring mutation, which appears as white stripes or multiple color on the leaves, stem or flower. Variegated varieties are often prized for the attractiveness of the markings caused by the mutation.

Vermiculite is a naturally-occurring mineral that expands when heated. Vermiculite acts like a sponge, absorbing water and swelling in size. It’s a good additive for plants that must remain evenly moist. Don’t use for succulents.
