Types of Succulents

Sedum

Sedum, part of the Crassulaceae family, is a diverse genus of flowering plants often referred to as stonecrops. Initially thought to include as many as 600 species, recent revisions have narrowed this estimate to 400–500 distinct species.

Kalanchoe

Kalanchoe, also spelled Kalanchöe or Kalanchoë, comprises approximately 125 species of tropical, succulent plants within the Crassulaceae family, primarily indigenous to Madagascar and tropical Africa.

Aloe

Aloe vera, a succulent plant species belonging to the genus Aloe, is widely distributed and often considered invasive in various regions worldwide. This evergreen perennial originates from the Arabian Peninsula and thrives in wild habitats across tropical, semi-tropical, and arid climates globally.

Senecio

Senecio is a diverse genus of flowering plants within the daisy family, encompassing ragworts and groundsels. Taxonomically variable, Senecio ranks among the largest genera of flowering plants.

Haworthia

Haworthia, small succulents from Southern Africa, are beloved by plant enthusiasts. Resembling mini aloes and part of the Asphodeloideae subfamily, their unique flowers set them apart. Perfect for gardens and containers, they add a lovely green touch to any space.

Agave

Agave plants, native to the dry regions of the Americas, are known for their tough, fleshy leaves that grow in large rosette formations. These succulents are perfect for xeriscaping due to their drought-resistant nature.

Mammillaria

Mammillaria is one of the largest genera in the cactus family, boasting around 200 known species and varieties. While most Mammillarias hail from Mexico, you’ll also find them in the southwestern United States, the Caribbean, Colombia, Venezuela, Guatemala, and Honduras.

Euphorbia

Euphorbia, also known as spurge, is a highly diverse genus of flowering plants in the Euphorbiaceae family. These plants vary widely in form, from tiny annuals to towering trees. One of the tallest species, Euphorbia ampliphylla, can reach heights of over 30 meters.
